Lipstick Queen: Glossy Pencils, Frog Prince and Big Bang Glosses

Lipstick Queen

Lipstick Queen is probably most famous for their ‘Frog Queen’ lipstick as its green, colour changing characteristics grabbed everyone’s attention. They also have other colour changing products that they are known for, but today, I’m going to be looking at a few of their other products as well as the famous ‘Frog Queen’. I wanted to give some of their other products some exposure, so let’s get started:

Lipstick Queen Chinatown Glossy Pencil £11

I purchased two of their glossy pencils as their giant, crayon-like applicator interested me – and who doesn’t like anything glossy? The swatches on the website are quite deceiving as they appear quite pale, but these pencils are nothing but! This shade, ‘chase’, is a bright pop of watermelon red. These pencils won’t give you a high shine like a true gloss would, but they are still shiny nonetheless. Each pencil comes with a sharpener, but so far I’ve had no need to use it even after many applications. I enjoy the crayon-like hold of the product as it makes applying it to your lips very easy.

‘Genre’ is a bright orange shade which I thought I wouldn’t enjoy, but it’s very flattering. These pencils aren’t soft, so you don’t need to worry about breaking them if you apply too much pressure. Lipstick Queen products are known for leaving a stain behind, but these pencils, not so much. After eating and drinking, these colours fade but don’t stain your lips. I don’t mind having to reapply these as the pencil makes the process a lot quicker and you don’t even need a mirror!

Lipstick Queen Big Bang Illusion Gloss £5.50

This gloss is from their ‘Big Bang’ collection, but I wasn’t a fan. I thought it would be nice to have a galaxy-like gloss, but this shade was not flattering and didn’t apply very well. It was very sheer and looked quite odd on the lips; the picture above shows that it had some red patchy spots. Overall, it looked almost like a muddy wine colour that was quite messy on the lips.

Lipstick Queen Frog Queen £22

Frog Prince is a colour changing lipstick designed to compliment your complexion by adapting to the natural pH of your lips into a rosebud pink. The swatch on my arm seems a bit dull, but once on your lips you’ll have a vibrant pink shine. The lipstick is moisturising, so is very comfortable on your lips – maybe too comfortable. I don’t like the feeling of lip balms and other moisturisers slipping around the mouth area, but that’s just my personal opinion. Like I’ve mentioned above, this will stain. As you wear this down during the day, the shine will fade but the colour will remain. Even after swatching on my arm I had a slight pink stain for the rest of the day. Overall, I really like this lipstick and concept idea behind it.

Verdict

I appreciate Lipstick Queen’s creativity when it comes to packaging and concepts behind their products, but not everything worked out for me. I will continue to use the pencils and lipstick, but I won’t be reaching for the lip gloss as much. All these products are very bright and so are not for everyone’s taste. Lipstick Queen have a wide range of lipsticks and other products – including some deeper tones for those who aren’t a fan of bright colours. I’d like to try out their other colour changing products and some of their usual lip colours. Ultimately, I think these items are fair priced for the quality that they bring and provide a pop to your makeup look.

Purchase Lipstick Queen on Space NK and the Lipstick Queen website.
